This series was intended to help Cornwell break into the American market. The series looks very much like an "American Sharpe". Unfortunately the books did not do well in the States, as apparently it wasn't Politically Correct enough, and the main character was on the losing side.

I am currently re-reading the series, and also re-evaluating my opinion. Certainly the first story was better than I remember, so keep checking for more reviews.
