The Discovery of the Titanic by Dr Robert Ballard

UK Publishers Hodder & Stoughton
© Madison Publishing Inc
ISBN 0-446-51385-7

This book relates the full story of the Titanic from the laying of her keel, to her discovery by Dr Ballard.

The book is a truely fascinating read, and is a great pictorial record, especially as she now is. The pictures, both in photograhic form and artists impressions made up from photo's are truely amazing. Leaving the reader greatly saddened at the fate of this once great ship.

I have a great respect for Dr Ballard, as he firmly believes in visiting the ships, exploring them and then leaving them in peace, unlike other visitors, who I regard as greedy grave robbers.

This is a superb book, by the man who found one of the greatest lost ships of all time.

Lost Liners by Dr Robert Ballard & Rick Archibald

UK Publishers Hodder & Stoughton

ISBN 0-340-69657-5

Although not totally dedicated to Titanic, it is another source of interesting pictures and information. It also to some extent brings the Titanic situation up to date (at the time it was written).

Another interesting book, made more appealing by the superb illustrations.

Titanic Links

Here you can find links to other interesting sites, all related to the subject of the Titanic.

Encyclopedia-Titanica

I have spent a lot of time at this site. From the small part looked at, it is a fantastic record of everything to do with the Titanic. Here is a list of some of the material on the site, it is by no means exhaustive.
  • Crew lists and biographies.
  • Passenger lists and biographies.
  • Survivor lists.
  • List of bodies recovered.
  • Deck plans.
  • Cabin allocations.
  • Cargo details (and very strange some of it is to).
  • Wreck photos.

The site also has details of the enquires held in the UK and US.

I was greatly impressed with this site and contents. If the info is not on this site then it probably doesn't exist. Visit today and be overawed at the detail.

Raise The Titanic.com

This site is run by Gabriel. It has a lot of interesting information, including the comic strip version of the book (which I didn't know existed). The site is quite firmly based around the film, with some interesting behind the scenes information. Gabriel is also running a campaign to have the film re-made.

Well worth a visit, as it has a great deal of material that I haven't seen before.

Titanic1.org

A lot of interesting memorabilia, which is apparently held in a museum in the States. The site has an on-line shop where you can by lots of replica items. It is not as exhaustive as Titanica, but has some interesting bits and pieces which add a certain human element to the tragedy.

Titanic.com

The site has a lot of the standard background information about the ship and the events leading up to the tragedy. The site is unusual in that it has an online forum. Unfortunately the questions range from the ridiculous to very interesting. I did find the banners for a casino (I apparently won a holiday!) rather inappropriate for such a site. The site is worth a quick look.
