This is the second new franchise to emerge from the Dirk Pitt series. The books are co written with Paul Kemprecos. The over riding impression you get with these stories is how alike they are to the Pitt/Giordino series. The two leads are almost exact clones, with just the surface characteristics changed. With the current novel Polar Shift the series does seem to be getting into the swing.

The characters of Austin and Zavala are starting to emerge, but both seem fairly non discript!
